
Meeting Minutes of the Ashtabula County EMS Council January 6, 2011
Chairman
Vincent Gildone called the regular meeting of the Ashtabula County EMS Council to order @ 1300 with the
following members present;

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented.

Guests Conneaut's Chief Steve Lee introduced himself to the group.
Old Business
It was announced that ACMC's legal group has said no to Senate Bill 54.
No movement has gone forward
on dispatchers instructing 911 call-ins with hands-only CPR.
New Business
Effort has been
put into organizing a multi-county drill around a mass-casualty incident. There are grants available
and work is going into creating the plan. An update will be given to the group when available.
RMRS
is looking to make 1 MCI tag region-wide. This is to make patient tracking (Ohtrac) easier using a barcode
system.
A motion was made to pay $75.00 for the ACEMS webpage. Motion by Joe DeFazio - 2nd by
Rhonda.
Committee Reports
No reports at this time from QA, Bylaw, MCI, Education,
Webpage or Award committees.
Credentialing - Tom Steele asked council members to please go on
the ACEMS website and download what's needed and please turn completed forms into Tom.
Protocol
- Regarding AHA updates, it was directed to follow the protocol you are working under. It will take a
while for everyone to get on the same page.
Jodi Calaway announced that ACMC's protocol is currently
changing and the medical director is finishing up.
Community Care has made changes to their protocol
and it has been updated.
911 - Data collection is 99% done but verification is a long process.
It needs to be very accurate.
Strategic planning is moving forward.
CodeRed is under review
and discussion was held on if it will be used again for future water issues (boil alerts). It will possibly
be expanded to all public utilities (outages). It was said that the past water issue was more of a color
thing than any actual illness.
Public Health - Joyce Bronson announced that they are currently
waiting on states approval on an insecticide that gets rid of bed bugs.
Joyce stated that there
is currently 1 active case of TB and it is being treated. She also stated that there are several cases
of Pertussis in Ohio and Geneva has had alot of Chicken Pox cases. Children that only have had 1 shot
need a 2nd shot to be properly vaccinated.
The shingles vaccine is available @ the Health Department.
Insurance (Medicare) can not be billed so it will need to be paid for out of pocket. This shot is recommended
for adults 60+ years of age that have not had Chicken Pox.
EMA - Tim Howson announced that the
Homeland Security Grant deadline is January 14th.
Hospital Reports - UH - The current Paramedic
class has 15 students still in the class with 2 on probation. They have a module exam this Saturday.
2 out of 15 are doing very well and 10 students are struggling a little. Mike Smith stated that some
students are coming in to the program not academically smart enough. Cardiology is the next module; and
it is the make it or break it part of the program. The paramedic program is still on a 3 year watch.
Bruce Shade has been granted a position on the Ohio Board of EMS (The State Board).
Andover
- Kathy Alexander states that the ER is looking into getting a Lucas Chest Compression system. Discussion
was held on the different type of compression systems.
Kathy also said that Andover ER is looking
into changing buildings or remodeling for a new ER.
ACMC - Jodi Calaway announced that the hospital
is working on Chest Pain & Stroke Accreditations. Field data collection is in place.
Education
opportunities are being planned to start at the end of February.
Date boards have been put up
in the EMS room.
Protocols should be done by the end of January.
Coroners - Rich Mongell
announced that the office is starting with a fresh budget for 2011. Rich also stated that there were
more cases in 2010 than in 2009.

The next meeting will be held March
3, 2011 at 1300 hours in the EMA office.
